OUR FOUNDER, EDDIE, WAS AN OUTDOOR GUIDE. He dedicated his life to making gear that got people outside. A century later, we continue working with guides and building gear equal to any destination. Because like Eddie, we believe that life is better outdoors, where it’s wild, beautiful, and meant to be shared. And when we put our name on a product, what we’re really saying is, go live your adventure. GUIDE BUILT. GUIDE TRUSTED. I got my first pair of these several months ago. I use these pants to manage a grocery store/produce department. That means I am really, really hard on these pants effectively. They fit and look like casual/dress pants a la golf-style. But they are plain enough to not really sell themselves that way at all. I got these because they are for outdoorsy events, and because the zipper thigh pockets are needed. For me, the thigh pockets are used to hold my pens/markers/utility knife, while I put my debit card and ID in the other pocket. After I got these, I got another pair. And as I was planning a trip to Iceland, and since I had traveled to Ireland recently wearing more conventional things like jean and whatever, I saw a goldmine opportunity to revamp my style.I can literally put a pair of these on, work in them. Then I can just go off hiking if I want. Or I can go camping in them. Or I can travel wherever I want with them. I wear them to church. I wear them out to eat. I wear them with T-shirts and polos and flannels. And I would 100% wear them to Iceland in the winter.I stand behind my statement so much that I literally own 7 pairs of these pants in several colors, and I've picked up shirts that relate to this style. Who am I kidding, I have terrible sense of style, and that's part of my charm. If you are a minimalist or if you travel a lot or if you are just tired of owning ten million articles of clothing you later regret; or if you are tired of buying cheap crap to fill a need and want to get something you can rely on. . .My two pairs of these in black have been worn 5-6 days a week, running around in a grocery store, banging along sharp edges and boxes, in a super cold chill room, up to 60 hours a week, nonstop for six months now. The other colors are worn infrequently. The black pants have held up and show zero sign of concern as to how they've been abused. EXCEPT:DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN YOUR BACK POCKETS. Period. Specifically, anything oblong or particularly thick or hard like a phone. If you squat, and you create a fulcrum with your rear for a stiff phone or related to pivot on, the bottom of the back pocket seam WILL RIP right open.At first I thought it was a design flaw. And I still think it is something EB should really figure out (because I mean back pockets are useful, especially for phones, duh). I'm really not happy I can't store my phone in my back pocket because that is literally the best pocket for me for my phone when I'm working, etc.But since I compromised and now leave my back pockets empty, I am fine with these pants. Maybe one day EB will figure that problem out.Let me give you one more reason to consider all I've said: when I travel, I travel as light as possible. I did almost 3 weeks in Ireland out of a single backpack. That pack had heavy and light clothes, jeans and socks and electronics and blah blah blah. Three weeks. Ireland. One backpack.I can now literally pack an entire month's worth of clothing with something different to wear every day of the week in that same backpack, but my clothes will now only take up about 10% of the space inside instead of my former 120% of the space (cram, cram, cram!).I only needed my iPad and phone for travel for that duration. So next time I trek out, I will literally be able to pack all I need in a 10lb bag for up to a month. My Ireland backpack weighed about 40lb and was crammed crammed crammed. My Iceland bag will weigh about 15lbs and look like there's nothing inside. These pants resist water, but can still soak through. They seem to block a lot of the wind. I currently wear them in New Hampshire winter (my first one in them) and I don't need long johns or anything else. Just these pants and my boxers or whatever. Out into 20degree weather, walking around just fine, not cold at all.And. . . since I ditched wallets a long time ago (I now just carry a debit card and my ID, as I've done for a couple years), I just drop those in one of the side zipper pockets and zip it up. Why is that important? Because it gives you a better chance to avoid being targeted by pickpockets. No one is going to expect that you have your cash and cards in a fairly hidden zipper pocket that starts at your thigh and drops down closer to your knee.Even if they did, which one? You got two. I can't imagine anyone has had enough time to practice bumping into people and stealing from a zipped Guide Pro pocket. If you use these pants to their full potential and live a life they work for, they are 1000% the right pants for you. Perfect for everyday, everything. IMO. That's why I've spent about 500 bucks on them in the last year.Pair with some high quality flannel and t-shirts, and you're set for the rest of your life wherever you find yourself. Travel like Jesus: light and often.
